Miniature Mondays: Tristan Durant WIP

I know it’s not Monday, but I wanted put up some WIP of the new model I’m painting. I started painting my journeyman warcaster Tristan Durant. So far, most of the base coating has been done and I put some base coats for the metals. In keeping with my theme I decided to paint him primarily black with the other cloth pieces maroon and cream. I’m not that great with black but I need the practice. Hopefully this model comes turns out well. Should be posting more shots over the next few weeks. Let me know what you guys think, comment on the bottom.

CrossFit Progress: Snatches, Snatches, Snatches.

My snatches need a lot of work. Last Friday I tried to hit a PR on my snatch. I attempted to lift 160 lb. which is 5 lb. over my current max. I failed all three attempts, but I almost made my last lift. I think with some more strength training and more practice I’ll be able ready. I need to work on some drills for speed  under the bar. I’ll talk to my coach and see if I can get some snatch balance work in. In other news I dropped 10 lb. and I’m finally down to 200 lb. Still have 30 – 40 lb. to go.

The Taken King: Destiny DLC

“Oryx is coming guardian. You got his attention, now get his head.”
After all the rumors, the new expansion for Destiny, “The Taken King” has now been confirmed. From the video you can see the new elemental sub classes, new raid, new story missions and maybe even a new planet. It’s probably going to be Mercury. I’m sure a new strike and PvP maps will be included as well. The expansion drops on September 15 at a price of $40. I hope it will be worth it.

Miniature Mondays: Bastion Seneschal WIP

Bastion Seneschal WIP

Assembled the missing pieces from the bastion model and did some highlighting. During assembly I got some super glue on the model. I will have to touch up the paint which is going to be a pain. I will need to add more shades and clean up the highlights. This was a fun model to paint and build but it still needs some work. After I finish the touch ups I will be working on Tristan.

May 2015 Loot Crate Unboxing: Unite

Sorry about the delay with last month’s crate unboxing. Loot Crate didn’t ship my box until after June 1, and I had to email them to make sure they sent one. The customer service department was fast to respond and a crate was shipped out the next day. I hope it’s an isolated case and this month’s crate is shipped out on time.

What is Loot Crate?

Taken from the Loot Crate site, “Each month, Loot Crate™ ships a themed mystery box of the best geek, gaming, and pop culture gear to a subscriber base of over 100,000 Looters. We emphasize phenomenal support and content, and include gear from some of the most respected entertainment and consumer product companies in the world.” Loot Crate sells for $13.95 a month plus $6.00 shipping and handling. You can save on the costs by subscribing for longer periods as well. May’s theme was “Unite”, and with the release of the Avengers movie, I had a feeling it would have some comic book items.

Whats in the Box?

This months box can be made into the locker room from Team Fortress. Even though I haven’t played Team Fortress, I like this box. The details are great and part of the box has a cut out for a bench that goes in the middle of the floor.

If you grew up in the 90’s you probably watched the original Power Rangers show. My friends and I would play Power Rangers and I would always pick green. The addition of a new ranger was a big deal to 8 year old me. The whole sword flute thing was cool and he had the best “animal” zord, a dragon!

I figured their would be some Avengers items since the movie was released in May. The ice cube tray is cool, and Loot Crate is having a Marvel themed cocktail contest. The shoe laces are cool, might switch out the laces on my Nike MetCon 1. The Avengers decal is alright. I don’t think I will put it on my car however.

Some exclusives were the Bravest Warriors comic and a special MAD issue. I’m not a big fan of the Bravest Warriors but I’ll read the comic. I used to read MAD magazine when I was younger, and I was a fan of the TV show. The collectors buttons are interesting, need to read up on what they mean. The Rick and Morty puzzle is interesting as well. I will probably let my younger siblings put this together. It’s summer so they will probably need something to do.

Final Thoughts

I really like the stuff that came in this months box. The shirt is my favorite item since it brings back great memories. The ice cube tray was a close second because I’m getting bored of regular cubes. It’s not the best box this year but I’m happy with it.

Miniature Mondays: Bastion Seneschal & Warmachine Battle Report

Managed to get some work done on the Bastion Seneschal. Painted some base coats on the pauldrons and leg plates. Did some clean up work with metallics as well. Need to finish up base coats on these pieces before I can move on to highlighting.

A few months ago Rodel and I filmed a 50 pt Warmachine game. It’s a Protectorate of Menoth vs Cryx match. Check out the Limitless Fails YouTube channel for more wargaming videos. I will also be posting our other videos here as well.

CrossFit Progress: New Clean and Jerk PR!

I finally hit a PR on my clean and jerk. My previous PR was 205 lb. and today I lifted 215 lb. I learned that your mental state plays a big role in heavy lifts. I made two attempts at 205 and missed one of them. The difference between the two lifts were my mental state. I wasn’t 100% during my missed lift; I wasn’t focused. After reevaluating and some notes from my coaches I made the lift. I felt really good after and decided to try and PR.

Thankfully, it only took one attempt. My coaches were trying to get me to attempt 225 lb but I decided against it. I only had a few minutes left and I didn’t want to rush it. The next time a max clean and jerk comes up, I’ll definitely attempt 225 lb. I wanted to post a video but it didn’t come out well, next time.

Destiny DLC: House of Wolves!

House of Wolves poster

Finally, after a long content lull the House of Wolves DLC has finally dropped and I wasn’t prepared. It was mostly due to no power. The typhoon that hit Guam over the weekend messed up my plans but thankfully everyone is safe and no real damage was done. My backyard mango tree was the only casualty. So far, I am happy with this new piece of content. The Prison of Elders and Trials of Osiris look fun and interesting. Even though a raid did not come with this DLC the new game types are welcomed. The reef looks great but it’s not as big as the tower. The reef and tower will both be important since none of the original faction vendors will be available in the reef.

I’m excited for the next few weeks as I progress through the content and hopefully it lasts until the Comet drops in a few months. I’m still waiting for a few games to be released but it might be a long wait. If you play on the PS4, add my PSN: H8terade_671.

CrossFit Progress: New Back Squat PR!

Last Friday I was able to hit a new PR. I was aiming for 345 – 350 lb. after the last heavy squat day. I broke my PR three times during the squat session. My last three lifts were 335, 345 and 355 lb. I took a lot of time between each attempt, resting about four to five minutes. Overall, I’m satisfied with my lifts. I have a gain of 9% on my squat which I’m impressed with. If I can keep this up, I’ll be able to hit 400 by this time next year.
The video below is from my 345 lb (right) and 355 lb (left) lifts.

CrossFit Progress: Back Squats at 100%

Yesterday, our strength portion was 2×2 back squat at 100%. I was a little nervous since it was at 100% but after the 95% day I had last week, I felt like it wasn’t going to be too bad. My main concern was my lower back but I was confident in my form. My first set was easier than expected. I did the two reps relatively quickly without any stalls throughout the lift. The second set however was very different.

I should have taken a longer rest period before heading into the last set. I rested for two minutes, but it should have been five. Those three minutes would have made this lift better. During the first lift, I came out of the bottom and was stuck for a second but I made it thanks to Coach Steve who was spotting me. Coach Paul was giving me cues. “Stay tight, you’re a little loose”, he said. I readjusted my feet and started my last rep. I stayed tight and with a little help from Coach Steve I managed to complete the lift.

We will be having a max lift day this coming Friday and I’m confident that I will be able to surpass my current PR of 325 lb. My goal would be 345 – 350 lb.
