Reckoner, Heavy Warjack by Privateer Press

With the Vanquisher finished, I’m moving on to the other heavy warjack in the lot, the Reckoner. The model is not perfect. Some of the details were obscured during the paint stripping process and I had to do a lot of major gap filling near the base of the smoke stacks. Also, whoever assembled the model scraped a little too much off some parts. I should be able to work with it but I will not repair it. Hopefully, it will look decent after it’s painted.

I previously purchased a heavy warjack kit and magnetized the Reckoner chassis. This model is going to stay a permanent Reckoner since I use at least one in most of my lists. I might paint it slightly differently but still working with black and sanguine.

Yu Jing: Ninja with Tactical Bow (Finished)

This was a very frustrating model to paint. The model looked great, I’m just not skilled enough to bring it to life the way I wanted to. I’m not down, it gives me more motivation to learn new skills and paint more!

Skills I need to work on: edge highlighting, blending and working with black. As you can tell, my edge highlights need a lot of work. I tried to employ several techniques but they didn’t come out great. My brushes were not co-operating with me and the paint kept getting everywhere. I need to work on brush control. I also need to work on paint consistency. It could be why the paint was getting everywhere.

I also need to work on the basing. I went back and forth between clean and dirty and couldn’t figure it out. The urban theme is also something new for me. The base didn’t come out as well as I would have liked, it’s going to be another adjustment.

This model was extremely humbling. After feeling good about my last few models that I painted, this one kicks me in the teeth. The final product is not what I wanted, but I will get better. It’s going to be a long road. Check out the pictures below.

Miniature Mondays: Vanquisher, Heavy Warjack (Finished)

This model was fun to paint and easy to assemble. The pose was a little awkward but it makes it easy to distinguish when it’s on the battle field. I tried to employ some edge highlighting and two brush blending but only one came out okay. I had to repaint the black a few times because my two brush blending didn’t go well. I need to read up on how to highlight black or flat surfaces. I like how my Vanquisher turned out and I want to touch up my older warjacks as well. Yu Jing: Ninja with Tactical Bow

Infinity is the new Wargame that our gaming group has decided to try out. With some of the factions taken, I settled on Yu Jing because who doesn’t like space ninjas? I know that the Infinity painting style is different. It has a lot of edge highlighting and a lot of contrast. It’s going be an adjustment for sure but thankfully I have a few YouTube channels I can watch for some inspiration. I hope I can get it done quickly.

After months of sitting on the shelf, I finally finished painting the Sunburst crew. I still have to do some touch ups on the metals but I’m happy with it overall. I finished the unit in time for EpixCon! Check out the pictures below.

Deliverer Sunburst Crew

The last unit I painted was the Temple Flameguard which I completed almost TWO YEARS AGO! I have been lazy in assembling and painting units but it’s based on need. The DSC and some artillery have gotten better and I’m definitely taking advantage of that unit. With the nerfing of some of the Protectorate guns like the Reckoner, Errants and Zealots, I needed to fill my lists with a hard hitting unit. I picked up the unit on Ebay for a fairly cheap price and have primed them. They are ready to paint! Check out the primed photos below and check back next week for some finished pictures of the unit.

Thyra, Flame of Sorrow (Finished)

Thyra, is a Daughters of the Flame warcaster. Daughters, are the Protectorate’s assassins/ninjas. They are quick and stealthy which made me paint her a dark color. I tried a different technique on the face which came out better than expected but the eyes are off a bit. I didn’t like the highlights on the cloth, and will need to practice more two brush blending or layering. I also didn’t like the way the metals came out. I need to work on highlighting and washing.
Overall, I loved painting this model. It pushed me to do better and try new techniques. It didn’t come out the way I wanted it to, but I had a great time. I need to watch and read more tutorials and try it out on more minis. Thanks for reading and check out the minis below.

Devout, Protectorate Light Warjack (Finished)

After sitting in my miniature drawer for a year or two, I finally fished painting the Devout. This was a fun and stressful model. I bought this model used and it did come with problems. The shield arm had to be modified since the connection was fragile and broke when stripping the old paint. This connection broke during painting but I was able to pin it back. It doesn’t look great but it’s holding up.
I had a lot of fun painting this model since I was trying to implement some new techniques. It did not turn out the way I liked but it means I need more practice. Also, I’m using my DSLR to take pictures. This should yield higher quality finished photos. Thanks for reading and check out the pictures below.

Thyra, Flame of Sorrow

I’m almost done with the Devout and I have to prime my next model to paint. I assembled Thyra earlier in the year to test out a list but now I think it is time to paint her. Small bits of the model are missing and the pose is a little off but it will have to do. The smaller model and details may be a hurdle that I will have to overcome. It’s going to be a challenge but it’s only going to make me better as a painter.

The other model I primed for NeoCon was the Devout. I didn’t finish Malekus during NeoCon so the Devout is on deck. After I finish Malekus, I’ll get started on the Devout. The left arm has broken off a few times but it should hold up.
