January 2017 Loot Crate Unboxing: Origins

What is Loot Crate?

Taken from the Loot Crate site, “Each month, Loot Crate™ ships a themed mystery box of the best geek, gaming, and pop culture gear to a subscriber base of over 100,000 Looters. We emphasize phenomenal support and content, and include gear from some of the most respected entertainment and consumer product companies in the world.” Loot Crate sells for $15.99 a month plus $6.00 shipping and handling. What’s in the Box?

The shirt this month is Mario! My earliest memories of gaming was spent in front of an NES playing Duck Hunt and Super Mario 3.
Next item is a Michelangelo Tiki Muglet. He’s my second favorite turtle with Leo coming in first. It’s about the size of a shot glass. I might pick up other ones from the Loot Crate Vault.
The next item is a 1:6 scale replica of the 1940’s Captain America shield. It’s a cool replica item that would be great on my nerd shelf.
The last big item is a reprint of Action Comics #1. This is the first appearance of Superman, and it comes with a certificate of authenticity.
This pin is sweet since it’s the TMNT logo. The pin comes with digital copies of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1-5 from IDW. I can’t wait to read these.

The box also turns into a comic holder!

Final Thoughts

I actually liked most of the items in this box. My favorite item would be the Mario shirt with the other items not far behind. Is this month’s crate worth it? I think it is.

What’s in the Box

The shirt this month is from Fantastic Beasts. I recently watched Fantastic Beasts and loved it. Even though it doesn’t show Harry and the gang, it’s a great  It has a lot of text but it’s simple. Last month’s Negan Sluggers shirt would have been better if it was just text. I really like the color as well.

The Doctor Strange item is an exclusive Q-Fig. I just watched the film and I thought it was great and now I can put Doctor Strange on display. I hope Loot Crate includes figures more often.
The Big Trouble in Little China item is a comic mashup with Escape from New York, another memorable Kurt Russell film.

The Game of Thrones item is a lined journal. The front and back cover shows Melisandre in both her forms with the line “The night is dark and full off terrors.” The inside of the journal is not bad, I might actually use this.

The pin is from The Elder Scrolls Online, a PC video game. I wanted to get the game for console but my friends were not interested in it. The pin lets you upgrade to the Imperial Edition from the standard edition but it’s only for PC. I need to build or buy a gaming rig since I’m missing out on so many games! If you want the code, leave a comment below. I’ll give it to the first person who asks.

Final Thoughts

This month was not bad. The shirt and figure made this months box. The comic was okay but I was hoping for something more from the Big Trouble in Little China. The journal is alright but I don’t know if I will use it. I would have preferred a house banner over an image of Melisandre. If you want to sign up use this LINK, also use the promo code BOX5 to save $5 off your first subscription. July 2016 Loot Crate Unboxing: Futuristic

What is Loot Crate?

Taken from the Loot Crate site, “Each month, Loot Crate™ ships a themed mystery box of the best geek, gaming, and pop culture gear to a subscriber base of over 100,000 Looters. We emphasize phenomenal support and content, and include gear from some of the most respected entertainment and consumer product companies in the world.” Loot Crate sells for $13.95 a month plus $6.00 shipping and handling. You can save on the costs by subscribing for longer periods as well. If you like this theme check out the link at the bottom to subscribe.

What’s in the Box?

The first item in the box is a cool Rick and Morty t-shirt. The shirt is a blueprint for Rick’s portal gun. I love the Rick and Morty show and I hope they make season three just as good as the last two. Wubba lubba dub dub!

The next big item is a mini replica of the Planet Express Ship. This figure is made by Quantum Mechanix, same company that makes the Q-Figs from past crates. The model has some areas that needs some clean up, looks like excess glue around some parts. Overall, it’s a great model.

Next figure is a Megaman variant from Kid Robot. This model is the red and white variant and is also a Loot Crate exclusive. I’m not a huge Megaman fan but I’ll put this on my shelf.

This comic by Valiant is a Loot Crate exclusive. I’m not familiar with Valiant comics but this one looks awesome. It looks like a cyberpunk series and reminds me of Shadow Run. Can’t go wrong with futuristic Samurai.
Last items in the box  are from Star Trek. The first item is a replica plaque from the U.S.S. Enterprise. You can turn anything in the Enterprise! It’s an okay item and it’s a better quality decal than the previous crates. The other Star Trek item is the monthly pin. The Vulcan salute pin like last month’s pin doesn’t have the Loot Crate branding. It’s a great pin that will go well in my pin collection. The pin also comes with a downloadable code for Star Trek Online. The Starfleet Admiral’s Commission Pack gives you some in game stuff and the value is around $50.00. I don’t play Star Trek Online so I will give this away to the first person to comment at the bottom.
The box can be turned into a landing pad for a space ship. It would be a cool way to display the Planet Express ship. Sadly my box was damaged during shipping and I won’t be using it for a display. In the monthly magazine, they included a Rick and Morty coloring page. Once Loot Crate releases the magazine on its website, you can print one too!

Final Thoughts

The Rick and Morty shirt and Planet Express ship were the best items from this month and easily worth the price of the box. I’m interested in reading the comic book and the Megaman mini will just go on my shelf. I’m not a huge Star Trek fan but the decal is cool as well as the pin. Overall, this month was better than last month but their is always room to be better.

June 2016 Loot Crate Unboxing: Dystopia

What is Loot Crate?

Taken from the Loot Crate site, “Each month, Loot Crate™ ships a themed mystery box of the best geek, gaming, and pop culture gear to a subscriber base of over 100,000 Looters. We emphasize phenomenal support and content, and include gear from some of the most respected entertainment and consumer product companies in the world.” Loot Crate sells for $13.95 a month plus $6.00 shipping and handling. What’s in the Box?

This RoboCop shirt is really cool. This Grey Matter print came out as a poster and I’m glad Loot Crate put it on a shirt. The poster depicts the original RoboCop film in all it’s 80’s glory.
This Dorbs power armor figure is cool but I wish it was an exclusive. The figure will go great next to my Vault Boy bobble head.
The Terminator 2 metal print is a new item for Loot Crate. I think this is a first time an item of this type has been included in a box. I hope I can incorporate this sign into a nerd room. If the print looks a little weird, it’s from the plastic film.
This is one of my favorite items this month and it’s also a Loot Crate exclusive. I haven’t played Bioshock Infinite but I have played a few of the older games. The key is a cool idea but it may only work for US locks since UK/Europe use a different key blank. It could be a cool key chain too.

Like the Rick and Morty puzzle from a previous box, I’ll probably give this to my little brother. I’m not a huge puzzle person so this is a miss for me.

This pin was inspired by the nukes from Fallout. I actually like this pin since it’s not Loot Crate branded. The pins come with exclusive wallpaper and ringtones from the mobile app Fallout Shelter.

This box opens up to the opening screen from Fallout 4. You can use it as a display for you Drobz figure.

Final Thoughts

The RoboCop shirt, Dorbz figure and key blank were the favorites this month. The metal print is alright and the matrix puzzle was a miss. This box was not as good as last month but it’s not bad either. I can’t wait for next month’s theme.

What’s in the Box?

As a recovering World of Warcraft player, I love this shirt. The Orc and Human design is subtle and not too “flashy”. Definitely going to wear this to the movie.

This thing is amazing! I wasn’t too sure what kind of kitchen item we would be getting in this month but I’m happy it’s this. I now have the power to…resist oven temperatures!

Who didn’t like watching DBZ as a kid? This Shenron and Dragon Ball plushie is awesome. It also has a clasp if you want to hook it on a bag.

The last two Q-Figs we got were great. The Adam West Batman and Deadpool figures are awesome, and now I get to add a sweet Hulk figure to add to the shelf. This figure is also a Loot Crate exclusive, which is awesome.

This month’s pin is a robot from Battleborn. Redeem your code on the LOOT CRATE website to receive some in game items.

The box turns into a display for your new Q-Fig!

Final Thoughts

I think this month’s items were worth it. A lot of quality items without any filler. I don’t have a favorite because I loved everything in this one! One of my favorite boxes to date.

April 2016 Loot Crate Unboxing: Quest

What is Loot Crate?

Taken from the Loot Crate site, “Each month, Loot Crate™ ships a themed mystery box of the best geek, gaming, and pop culture gear to a subscriber base of over 100,000 Looters. We emphasize phenomenal support and content, and include gear from some of the most respected entertainment and consumer product companies in the world.” Loot Crate sells for $13.95 a month plus $6.00 shipping and handling. What’s in the Box?

Labyrinth was one of my earliest fantasy movies that I watched growing up. My favorite character was Sir Didymus the fox knight. As much as I loved the movie, I don’t really like this shirt. My mom saw me opening the box and she loved it. She’s a fan of the movie and she loves Bowie. This month is also when Guam holds the annual Relay For Life event. It’s an event and fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The colors for Relay For Life is purple and she’ll will wear this to the event.
The Harry Potter item is a pair of socks. On the socks are Voldemort’s horcruxes. I decided to give these to my little sister. She would wear this more than I would.
Skol! If you watched Vikings, you will hear that word every time they pick up a drinking horn. Now I have my very own.

Next up is a Nathan Drake poster from the Uncharted series. I haven’t played any of the Uncharted games and it’s a shame. Shame on me! Not sure if this will push me to buy the game but if someone wants to let me borrow it, I will not decline. This game releases on May 10th.

One of my favorite items in this box is a D20 ice mold. I’ve been seeing the Death Star mold online and I’ve been wanting something similar. Thankfully, the universe has obliged. Combined with the Avengers ice mold my drinks will be a lot more nerdier in the future.

This pin is a shield with a d20 in the middle. It’s my favorite pin so far this month. They also made alternate pins that were all gold. A friend of mine received a gold pin but I do not have a picture. You can also pick up a Gelatinous Cube companion if you play the Dungeon and Dragons MMO Neverwinter. I might look into this game now since it’s free to play.

Final Thoughts

This month’s box was great, even though I received two items I wouldn’t normally use. Since I could give them to family members, it was definitely worth it. The d20 ice mold and the Vikings drinking horn are my favorite items.

March 2016 Loot Crate Unboxing: Versus

What is Loot Crate?

Taken from the Loot Crate site, “Each month, Loot Crate™ ships a themed mystery box of the best geek, gaming, and pop culture gear to a subscriber base of over 100,000 Looters. We emphasize phenomenal support and content, and include gear from some of the most respected entertainment and consumer product companies in the world.” Loot Crate sells for $13.95 a month plus $6.00 shipping and handling. What’s in the Box?

I’m not a huge Star Trek fan but I think this shirt is from an episode. I like this shirt because the material is soft and it feels and fits great. The only downside is the color. It’s a light tan color which is unfortunate since lighter colors tend to stain easier.
Next up is an Alien vs Predator vinyl figure from Titans. The figure is slightly pose able with the arms and head able to move. I got a Xenomorph but I was hoping for the Predator. I have watched all the Predator films and one from the Aliens series.
The other wearable in this box is a reversible Daredevil/Punisher beanie. It’s a cool beanie but I’ll probably wear it only when I travel. Guam’s weather is not cold enough to warrant a beanie.
The Batman vs Superman item is a mighty wallet. I have a few mighty wallets from Loot Crate and I haven’t used any of them. Wish it was a different item.
This Loot Crate exclusive is a Harley Quinn comic. I’ll probably read it but I’m not a huge fan of DC ip’s.

Loot Crate also created another game app for this month. I haven’t played it yet but I’m not sure if I will download it. I’ll probably download it to try it out at my next game night. The pin for this month is a cool AVP inspired pin. You also get a free stream of Aliens or Predator on Vudu.com, or a free download of AVP: Three World War #1 from ComiXology.

The box has art inspired by Aliens and Predator.

Final Thoughts

I liked the majority of items in this months box. The beanie and the AVP figure were my favorites. The t-shirt is okay but I’m not a huge Star Trek fan. The wallet and comic are a miss for me.

February 2016 Loot Crate Unboxing: Dead

What is Loot Crate?

Taken from the Loot Crate site, “Each month, Loot Crate™ ships a themed mystery box of the best geek, gaming, and pop culture gear to a subscriber base of over 100,000 Looters. We emphasize phenomenal support and content, and include gear from some of the most respected entertainment and consumer product companies in the world.” Loot Crate sells for $13.95 a month plus $6.00 shipping and handling. You can save on the costs by subscribing for longer periods as well. If you like this theme check out the link at the bottom to subscribe.
This month’s theme was DEAD, and Loot Crate included items from Deadpool and The Walking Dead.

Whats in the Box?

The shirt this month is from Deadpool. It looks great and would go well with my Deadpool socks from a previous month.

This Q Pop miniature is sweet! I will definitely be making a space for it on my desk. I’ll probably remove the Pop figures from my desk and replace it with this.
This soap on a rope is the first Walking Dead item. It’s the ear necklace that Daryl wears in season 2. It’s a litte creepy to be honest. I’m not going to open it yet, I hope it smells good.

The last featured item is the McFarlane toys figure. This item was a bit disappointing. I was expecting a normal sized figure but instead we got a miniature from the building sets. The building sets allow you to create your own scenes from the tv show. I will look into this some more.

This month’s pin is a zombie Loot Crate box. The free item this month is a rare Carl from the game “The Walking Dead: Road to Survival” by Scopely. I haven’t played this game yet, but I might give it a try. Not sure if I can pack more stuff into my phone though. Check out LOOT CRATE PINS for more details.

Final Thoughts

The Deadpool items were great but the Walking Dead items fell short. The Q Fig and shirt are my favorite items this month. I’m going to remove my Pop! vinyls to make room for this Q fig.If you want to sign up use this LINK, also use the promo code BOX5 to save $5 off your first subscription. December 2015 Loot Crate Unboxing: Galaxy

This month’s theme was Galaxy with items from Star Wars, Halo and Galaxy Quest. Also included will be a T-shirt and Funko Pop vinyl.

What’s in the Box?

This month’s shirt is an “Ugly Christmas sweater”. The people at Loot Crate made a space exploration 8-bit design to commemorate all the achievements from NASA this year. My inner astronomer is happy.
Next up is a cool Halo 5 tin and a dlc pack. I haven’t played the recent Halo games with my last game being Halo 2. This is because I can’t afford both consoles and I don’t think I’ll give up my Play Station any time soon. I like containers since I always need boxes to store my hobby stuff. This ammo box tin will be put to good use. It did come with a few dents in it but it’s not a big deal. As for the dlc code, I’ll give it to whoever wants it. First person to comment at the bottom will get it.
Also included were some sweet BB-8 socks and a Galaxy Quest patch. I’ve liked all the socks that were included in past crates. These BB-8 socks will go well with my others Star War apparel. The Galaxy Quest patch is a prop replica from the movie and is also a Loot Crate exclusive. I can probably add it to my Wargaming bag.
The exclusive Funko Pop this month is Han Solo! This is from the Force Awakens line which means this is older Han. I do not own a Star War Funko bobble head, and I’m glad this is my first one. This is definitely going on my desk.
The box turns into a “Cryo Capsule” with a QR code at the bottom. The link leads to a sliding puzzle game that you can play. If you complete the puzzles you get a downloadable poster of the ship you repaired.

Final Thoughts

Loot Crate did a great job with this month’s crate. They had great items with the Han Solo bobble head, BB-8 socks and the ugly sweater space shirt being my favorites. In the magazine Loot Crate announced that they are including shirts in every 2016 crate. I liked most of the shirts this year and I’m excited for next year.

What’s in the Box?

These sunglasses like the previous TMNT ones are cool but not practical. The only time I wear sunglasses is while driving and these are a bit much. I really like them, but I will probably never use them. I guess I can always give them to my little brother.

If you’re a fan of Fallout you will recognize this character, Vault Boy! I have played two games from the Fallout series and I plan on picking up Fallout 4. This will go on my desk at work.

I’m a big fan of Blizzard games. I started playing the original Warcraft in elementary school and played almost every title since. I haven’t heard of this line of vinyl figures but I’m glad they included one in this months box. Who doesn’t want a chibi Blizzard character?! I got the Loot Crate Murloc which will go on my desk. The other thing that came in was sheet of magnets as well. They are not particularly strong and I think they will slide off easy. The Game of Thrones magnets from a past crate was stronger.

The last installment of the Hunger Games movies is out this month and Loot Crate has included a Mocking Jay pin. I like the pins that Loot Crate has been adding lately. Like the Hydra pin I will probably added this to my Warmachine bag or give it to my younger sister who is a big Hunger Games fan.

I’m a fan of the Street Fighter series but I haven’t played any recent games. I hope the comic is as good as the video games.

Final Thoughts

I think this crate wasn’t too bad. The Mocking Jay pin and comic are okay. I also liked the Vault Boy bobble head and the Blizzard miniature but the shredder sunglasses and magnets were a miss. This month didn’t beat last month but I think next month will be better.
