Limitless Fails Gaming Group: Otaku Recon 2016 Recap

Otaku Recon 2016 Recap

I had a blast at Otaku Recon 2016 but it almost didn’t happen. A few months ago I contacted the people from Kai Productions but they were not giving out spots for exhibitors. The group was disappointed but we understood. Two weeks ago the organizers offered us a spot  the main hall! I’m not sure what happened but we were willing to fill the spot. The short notice was unfortunate. I wasn’t able to make a new diorama or display board but we did the best with what we had. I think we did a lot better this year since we had a wide variety of wargames.
We decided to do a display most of our Wargames: Warmachine, Guild Ball and Infinity. Last year we did demos of Warmachine, this year we were going to focus Guild Ball and maybe Infinity. Since they were skirmish games, the demo would be easy. We set up the demo table with Guild Ball and the other table with Warmachine and Infinity. On the second day we had a small Warhammer 40k Ork display and a Dust Tactics display.
We did a few demos of Guild Ball and Infinity. The new players really liked the games and will hopefully start playing with us. Instead of video, I was able to take a time lapse with my GoPro. I will upload the video soon. Check out the Limitless Fails Gaming Group Facebook page for more info about meet ups.

Miniature Mondays: Reznik2 and Durst

Finally Finished

After months of procrastination and loss of interest in painting, I finished my two Protectorate Warcasters that have been sitting on my table. I found some painting inspiration and they were completed in no time. Reznik2 was a pain but worth it. He looks great on the battle field and hopefully I build a better list for him in MK3. So far, I’m 0-2 but I know I can play him better.

I also finished Durst. I should have finished him a lot sooner but I dropped him and he came apart. I was bummed about it but I dropped him in some cleaner and assembled him. My clumsiness might have been a blessing in disguise however because I pinned him in more places. Hopefully he’s more durable. I haven’t played him in any lists yet but I’m sure I can find something great.

I’m not sure what’s next for the painting table. I have a Devout and Testament assembled but I need to prime them. I really want to put Thyra and unit of Daughters together as well. I also have some Guild Ball models to paint! So many models, so little time. Let me know what you think about the models. Leave a comment at the bottom. Thanks for reading!

Wargame Wednesdays: Building A Simple House

In order to diversify our tables during Warmachine games, I decided to build a simple house. Previously, I would make houses out of paper print outs from artists like Dave Graffam but I wanted to start building more realistic terrain pieces and decided to build a simple house. I borrowed designs I found on the internet, and built it from scratch. This is my first attempt at making a building.

The design of the house should have been done differently. The posts inhibit the roof but I compensated by adding posts to the pitch. It wasn’t ideal but I didn’t want to cut new walls again.

Used some leftover card from a soda box to make the roof.

I made a makeshift door and window from pieces of balsa wood and bamboo skewers.

I cut pieces of card from various boxes to create the shingles. The roof is topped with a single piece of card.

Started to base coat the windows, roof, walls, wood pieces and foundation.

Started dry brushing tiles and foundation with a light gray highlight color.

Added a few more touch ups and I’m done!

Final Project Thoughts

I underestimated this build. I have a lot more respect for good terrain builders, since it’s not easy making a well built piece. I need to do more measuring and dry fitting before I decide to glue. It would point out potential flaws in the build. At the time, I was excited to put everything together and should have took the time to plan.I should also get some more materials like thin balsa wood and plasticard. Balsa is easy to find but the plasticard has to be bought online and shipped here. I have a small tool that I can use to make rivets and I can probably learn how to make or buy molds for houses. Overall, I like building terrain. It’s a great break from miniature painting and your gaming tables look better!

Miniature Mondays: Reznik 2 Update

Sorry This Took So Long

After taking months off of painting this miniature I finally got some inspiration to finish it. With the release of Warmachine “MK3” I want to finish as many miniatures as possible. I’ve finished the horses, the wheels and a wrack. Need to do some touch ups on the horses but that shouldn’t be difficult. Need to start painting the chariot, and finish the base, the other wrack and flags. I should have this done in a month or so.
