Miniature Mondays: Princess (Finished)

Princess is Finished

After what feels like forever, I finally finished the Butcher mascot Princess. In my previous post, I wanted to paint Princess with a typical bull dog coat. I ran into a bunch of snags throughout the painting process. I realized I didn’t prep the model as well as i could. I didn’t cover the seams in the legs. It’s noticeable from the pictures. I also couldn’t get the white part of the coat to a color that I liked and I couldn’t get brown part to a decent shade. Rather than strip the model I decided to salvage it. It’s not my best work but I’ll use this as a learning experience. It’s good enough for table top. Check out the pictures below.

Miniature Mondays: Brant Benoit aka Ghool

I haven’t finished painting Princess but I have been watching miniature videos on YouTube. One of my favorite painters to watch is Brant Benoit. He’s won multiple awards from Wyrd and Privateer press. I’ve been reading his articles on Hand Cannon Online, since I started playing Warmachine and Hordes. He also started making videos which are great for beginners. If you have questions, you can comment on his YouTube videos and he usually gets back to you quickly. He’s one of my painting role models and I hope to reach his level one day.

You can check out his YouTube page here.

Happy Halloween everyone!

The Butchers Mascot: Princess

Next on the painting table is Princess, the Butcher mascot. I’m not sure what the color scheme will be but I’m leaning toward white and brown. Something like this:
This may take a few weeks since I’m working on some honeymoon videos and more posts about our trip but I’ll try to get it done.

Miniature Mondays: Boar (Finished)

Boar is Finished

I finally finished Boar! He came out better than expected. I haven’t painted in awhile and visiting Europe made me appreciate art and the skill that goes into it. I also visited a few game stores and a lot of their models looked great and I saw a few that won awards. This inspired me to paint a lot more in the coming months. We’re going to start playing some Guild Ball at a LGS and I would like to finish my team soon. Painted miniatures look better on the table.
I tried to do some new techniques which turned out better than expected. I still need to work on painting skin but this is great step in the right direction. Need to work on blending as well. I’m not sure what I’ll paint next but it will be something from Butchers.

Attacking Midfielder: Boar

I haven’t done much painting lately but I just got back from Europe and picked up some brushes. A Da Vinci, a few Raphaels and some Rembrandts. Seeing all the museums in Europe has inspired me to continue painting and has renewed my interest. I can’t wait to try out my new brushes on a few models. Since I painted Ox instead of Boar, I decided he would be next. I’ll be following the same scheme but I’ll be slightly changing some colors. I want to finish this guy over the next week or two. He’s one of my favorite characters from the game. Here are some pictures before I paint him.

Miniature Mondays: Ox

Butchers Captain: Ox

I stated in a previous post that Boar would be the first model from the Butchers team. After looking at boar I decided to test out a paint scheme on the captain, Ox. the paint scheme I went for is almost the same as my Protectorate army. I love the cream and maroon colors of the protectorate and wanted to apply this to my Butchers. I didn’t want to copy the studio scheme for my team so I went with something similar.

I also started using the Army Painter inks on this one. The strong tone, soft tone and dark tone inks are awesome. I’ve used vallejo inks and washes but they gave a frosted finish on a few of my models. I threw those bottles out and I’m very happy with the Army Painter stuff. My skill as a painter is getting better. I’m no where near a pro level but I think my stuff is good enough for table top. I can’t wait to paint more stuff!

Let me know what you think, leave a comment at the bottom.

Miniature Mondays: “Meat the Butchers” My Guild Ball Team

Meat the Butchers

After painting Reznik2 and Durst I wanted to paint something new. I love my Protectorate models but I needed a pallet cleanser so, I  picked up a Guild Ball team, The Butchers. I was tempted to pick up the Alchemists or Engineers but the Butchers spoke to me. I wanted to play a team that was more melee focused and straight forward. Here are some pictures of my models before they get a coat of primer. Hopefully I can finish a few of them and start on more Warmachine models.

First model on deck is going to be Boar. He’s an awesome model, rules wise and his sculpt looks sweet. That huge cleaver is going to do some damage! I’m not sure what the paint scheme is going to be but I really like the Protectorate of Menoth colors. I didn’t want to stray from colors I like so I might go with that.

Miniature Mondays: Reznik2 and Durst

Finally Finished

After months of procrastination and loss of interest in painting, I finished my two Protectorate Warcasters that have been sitting on my table. I found some painting inspiration and they were completed in no time. Reznik2 was a pain but worth it. He looks great on the battle field and hopefully I build a better list for him in MK3. So far, I’m 0-2 but I know I can play him better.

I also finished Durst. I should have finished him a lot sooner but I dropped him and he came apart. I was bummed about it but I dropped him in some cleaner and assembled him. My clumsiness might have been a blessing in disguise however because I pinned him in more places. Hopefully he’s more durable. I haven’t played him in any lists yet but I’m sure I can find something great.

I’m not sure what’s next for the painting table. I have a Devout and Testament assembled but I need to prime them. I really want to put Thyra and unit of Daughters together as well. I also have some Guild Ball models to paint! So many models, so little time. Let me know what you think about the models. Leave a comment at the bottom. Thanks for reading!

Miniature Mondays: Reznik 2 Update

Sorry This Took So Long

After taking months off of painting this miniature I finally got some inspiration to finish it. With the release of Warmachine “MK3” I want to finish as many miniatures as possible. I’ve finished the horses, the wheels and a wrack. Need to do some touch ups on the horses but that shouldn’t be difficult. Need to start painting the chariot, and finish the base, the other wrack and flags. I should have this done in a month or so.

Miniature Mondays: Anson Durst

After sitting on my desk for a few months, I finally decided to start assembling Anson Durst. Thankfully, it was an easy build, with not a lot of parts. I had to pin a few things together and I’m a bit worried about the shield. I’m also putting him on a brick base to match the other paladins in my army. I’ve played two proxy games with him and I’m excited to field him in the coming months.

I’m not abandoning the Reznik 2 build. I just finished assembling parts of his chariot and I need to prime them.  I will try finish him before I start on painting Durst.
