July 2015 Loot Crate Unboxing: Heroes 2

What is Loot Crate?

Taken from the Loot Crate site, “Each month, Loot Crate™ ships a themed mystery box of the best geek, gaming, and pop culture gear to a subscriber base of over 100,000 Looters. We emphasize phenomenal support and content, and include gear from some of the most respected entertainment and consumer product companies in the world.” Loot Crate sells for $13.95 a month plus $6.00 shipping and handling. You can save on the costs by subscribing for longer periods as well. The July theme was Heroes 2 which is a follow up to one of the crates from last year. I’m expecting to see some comic stuff and a cool book.

What’s in the Box?

The big item from this month is the QMx Q-Pop DC figure. This figure looks great, it even comes with a cool base. Most of the figures we get in Loot Crate are stand alone models without a base. You can also write a message on the sign. I particularly like this figure since it’s the Batman from the old TV shows. I remember watching episodes with my great grandmother when I was very young. Also, Adam West is awesome.
The Batman multitool is pretty cool and I want to replace my current keychain with this one. It’s a bit heavy which may weigh down my pocket. The Zelda wrist band is cool but I don’t really use wrist bands these days. I’m not a huge fan of Star Trek but I like the air freshener. The “Live Long and Prosper” hand sign  is one of the iconic nerd symbols. I do not know anything about the game Brawlhalla but I will after I download it.

The Wonder Woman poster is done in a WWII propaganda style which is neat. I will probably give this one to my younger sister.

This looks like a book I would like to read. It’s a book of short lived super heroes from actual comics with history and commentary. I like historical books and the comic book industry is an interesting one.

Final Thoughts

Even though this box did not have a shirt, I actually liked it. The Q-Pop Batman and the hardcover book were my favorite items this month. Overall, I think this month was worth it. Can’t wait to see what the theme will be for August.

Loot Crate August 2015 Theme: Villans 2

Taken from Loot Crate email release: “We took a hero’s journey in July, but this August, we’re turning up the heat! Get ready for the strike back, the revenge, the evil electric boogaloo! This month, join us as we cower in fear at the return of the Villains! Whether they’re terrifying or tragic, something about bad guys and gals is just plain fun. Probably the snazzy outfits, army of henchmen and totally relatable “treat yo’ self to some sweet loot” attitude. Anyway, we’re celebrating our darker side with epic items from Marvel, an exclusive DC figure and more (including a unique wearable we’ve never put in a crate before)! It’s good to be bad.”

Last year’s Villains crate was pretty sweet. We got the Joki shirt, Deadpool socks, and some other villain themed items. Last months Hero 2 crate was great which gives me hope that the Villains sequal will be just as good. I’m excited, I hope you are too.

Loot Crate July 2015 Theme: Heroes 2

What’s better than Heroes? How about HEROES 2! In a world where bad eggs and madmen run amok ... This month, we have several brave and bold items from DC Entertainment (including an exclusive figure!), a licensed Legend of Zelda wearable, an enterprising Star Trek item with a whiff of whimsy and our very first hardcover Looter Edition book! It's the loot you deserve and the loot you need right now! Make sure you join us for another mighty month!
Next month’s crate is going to be a second hero themed crate. Last August was the first “Hero” crate which had the Funko Groot and TMNT figure. This month we will get a DC Figure (Hopefully Funko), a Zelda wearable, a Star Trek item and a hardcover book. I’m actually looking forward to the book since it’s hardcover. I hope next month’s crate is as good as the last few Crates.

June 2015 Loot Crate Unboxing: Cyber

What is Loot Crate?

Taken from the Loot Crate site, “Each month, Loot Crate™ ships a themed mystery box of the best geek, gaming, and pop culture gear to a subscriber base of over 100,000 Looters. We emphasize phenomenal support and content, and include gear from some of the most respected entertainment and consumer product companies in the world.” Loot Crate sells for $13.95 a month plus $6.00 shipping and handling. You can save on the costs by subscribing for longer periods as well. The June theme was Cyber and we got a lot of cool futuristic themed stuff. The box turns into a display which is pictured at the bottom.

What’s in the Box?

Terminator Genisys will be released on July 1, and this replica Endo Skull is great. I grew up watching the Terminator movies and this item will go great on my desk. The other Terminator item is a brain chip keychain. I believe it’s from Terminator 2, and the chip is a replica of the T800 chip.

This shirt combines two great things from the 80’s, Tron and Transformers. Even if you do not like the remakes, you have to admit this shirt is awesome! Loot Crate shirts have been getting better every month which is a great sign for things to come.

I haven’t played a lot of Borderlands but I like the concept. This mouse pad looks pretty cool and I need one for my desk. The pouch has a circut design on it and can be used for almost anything. I’ll probably use it for gaming. I have a bunch of tokens and pens that need a bag. Also, it glows in the dark. The patch is from Blade Runner and represents the Tyrell Corporation. I’ve watched this movie once but it was when I was still young. I do not remember the film but I can always watch it again. Also included were Nerd Machine stickers. I will probably use them to tag my water bottle.

The last item is two Cylon posters. They are in the style of firing range targets. I haven’t watched this show yet but it’s on my Netflix queue. They will make great targets for Nerf guns.

This month’s button has the same design as the pouch.

After cutting out some parts of the box you can make a display for your Terminator skull!

Final Thoughts

This crate was awesome. I liked majority of the items and will probably use most of them. This Loot Crate felt more put together and thought out. I hope the future Loot Crates feel the same way. May 2015 Loot Crate Unboxing: Unite

Sorry about the delay with last month’s crate unboxing. Loot Crate didn’t ship my box until after June 1, and I had to email them to make sure they sent one. The customer service department was fast to respond and a crate was shipped out the next day. I hope it’s an isolated case and this month’s crate is shipped out on time.

May’s theme was “Unite”, and with the release of the Avengers movie, I had a feeling it would have some comic book items.

Whats in the Box?

This months box can be made into the locker room from Team Fortress. Even though I haven’t played Team Fortress, I like this box. The details are great and part of the box has a cut out for a bench that goes in the middle of the floor.

If you grew up in the 90’s you probably watched the original Power Rangers show. My friends and I would play Power Rangers and I would always pick green. The addition of a new ranger was a big deal to 8 year old me. The whole sword flute thing was cool and he had the best “animal” zord, a dragon!

I figured their would be some Avengers items since the movie was released in May. The ice cube tray is cool, and Loot Crate is having a Marvel themed cocktail contest. The shoe laces are cool, might switch out the laces on my Nike MetCon 1. The Avengers decal is alright. I don’t think I will put it on my car however.

Some exclusives were the Bravest Warriors comic and a special MAD issue. I’m not a big fan of the Bravest Warriors but I’ll read the comic. I used to read MAD magazine when I was younger, and I was a fan of the TV show. The collectors buttons are interesting, need to read up on what they mean. The Rick and Morty puzzle is interesting as well. I will probably let my younger siblings put this together. It’s summer so they will probably need something to do.

Final Thoughts

I really like the stuff that came in this months box. The shirt is my favorite item since it brings back great memories. The ice cube tray was a close second because I’m getting bored of regular cubes. It’s not the best box this year but I’m happy with it.

Loot Crate June 2015 Theme: Cyber

Taken from Loot Crate website “This month, we’re featuring exclusive items from Terminator Genisys, Borderlands and more, including an exclusive t-shirt you won’t find anywhere else! So back up your hard drive, learn a little binary and get ready to download your disembodied consciousness into Loot Crate Systems!”. This month’s theme is different. This is the first Cyberpunk or futuristic theme and I hope they do it justice. I like a lot of movies and games they mention. Lets hope they get this one right. If you want to subscribe this month use this LINK. I get credit for everyone that signs up. You can also use the code “Save3” to get three dollars off your subscription.

Haven’t received my Loot Crate from this month, I will try to put up an unboxing soon.

Loot Crate May 2015 Theme: UNITE!

Taken from Loot Crate email “May’s theme is UNITE! We’re gathering all our friends, painting animal-shaped robots our favorite colors, and prepping for an EPIC team up! Why? Well two heads are better than one, there’s strength in numbers, and we had like ten whole notebooks full of awesome, unused band names. Get set to travel across dimensions, battle evil, capture some flags, and just plain have fun! We’ve got awesome exclusives from Marvel’s Avengers, Power Rangers, Team Fortress 2, Bravest Warriors, Rick and Morty and more, plus an EXCLUSIVE licensed t-shirt! Thanks for being on our team this month!”

This months theme is not surprising since May 1st is the release of the new Avengers movie. I’m optimistic next months crate will have some cool exclusives. I hope the next shirt is as cool as the D&D shirt from the April crate. Don’t let us down Loot Crate!

April 2015 Loot Crate Unboxing: Fantasy

What is Loot Crate?

Taken from the Loot Crate site, “Each month, Loot Crate™ ships a themed mystery box of the best geek, gaming, and pop culture gear to a subscriber base of over 100,000 Looters. We emphasize phenomenal support and content, and include gear from some of the most respected entertainment and consumer product companies in the world.” Loot Crate sells for $13.95 a month plus $6.00 shipping and handling. You can save money by subscribing for longer periods as well. This month’s theme was, Fantasy, which makes me think of epic quests, wizards and Dungeons & Dragons.

What’s in the Box?

This month’s box takes the form of a wooden table with map, sword and coins on it. The map looks to be in the same style as Game of Thrones. The small Goblin and cobwebs details are cool too.

This shirt is one my favorite items from this month Loot Crate. I’m a big fan of D&D and other pencil and paper RPGs. My friends are going to start up a new 5th edition game soon, and this shirt will go well with the campaign.

In keeping with the fantasy theme, an inflatable crown, Harry Potter luggage tag and a D&D bow-tie were also included. I didn’t care for the crown since I don’t have a use for it. Maybe I will be able to use it for Halloween this year. The luggage tag is cool, might need to replace my Yoda tag I bought in Korea. I really like the D&D bow-tie but I don’t have a use for it at the moment. The design is unique with a fabric pattern is made up of D20’s and Dragons. I need to find more reasons to wear all the nerd formal wear I received from Loot Crate.

The Princess Bride themed playing cards are great. I have seen the Princess Bride once or twice when I was younger but this card set makes me want to watch it again. The illustrations are detailed and all the face cards are unique. I like to keep a deck of cards around just in case someone wants to play an impromptu poker game.

Since the first season I’ve been a huge fan of Game of Thrones. I haven’t read the books but I may need to since the TV show will start deviating from the source material. The Stark sigil USB drive is awesome but sadly it’s only holds 4 gb of data. If it was at least 32 gb it would have been perfect. I will still put it to good use since it will replace the other small drives that I have. The magnet set has cool designs with the house motto and sigil. These will look great on my refrigerator or on my desk.

Final Thoughts

I believe this month’s crate was worth it. I would have preferred something from Lord of the Rings instead of Harry Potter but it’s not a deal breaker. The D&D shirt, and Game of Thrones items are my favorites this month. Hopefully next months crate is just as great as this one. March 2015 Loot Crate Unboxing: Covert

Loot Crate is a monthly subscription box for geeks and nerds. It has a variety of items that follow a monthly theme. The cost of the box is $13.95 plus $6.00 for shipping, bringing it to a total of $19.95. The value of the box is subjective so watch and read more reviews before you decide to subscribe. The March theme is Covert. I was expecting some cool spy themed stuff and I wasn’t disappointed.

What’s in the Crate?

Box Design: Spy Computer

Loot Crate has been doing box designs for a few months with some being more elaborate than others. Past boxes had cut outs and diorama like set pieces. Last Months box was a board game board while this month has a computer design. The box is actually a puzzle and the URL on the bottom left of the screen (http://bit.ly/19aqSpV) is a link that starts the puzzle. The puzzle has clues that requires you to look at all the things you got this month. At the end you submit your name to be a henchmen and maybe they give you something as well. This was fun and I hope they make more interactive boxes like this.

James Bond Shirt

This is one of my favorite shirts from Loot Crate. The whole “shaken not stirred” line from Bond is iconic. I will be wearing this as soon as possible.

Spy Gear

The spy gear is pretty cool. The watch has a blank face and doesn’t show the time unless a button is pressed. The Field Notes notebook is small and easy to carry. I will probably use this more since I prefer writing to using my cell phone. Also included is a paracord survival bracelet with  the Loot Crate colors of orange and black. It’s a very useful item and hopefully I will not have to use it. I remember the Mad Libs games from when I was younger but I haven’t played a game in a while. I will probably play it with my younger siblings, it seems like a fun way to kill some time.

Agents, Clones and Ninjas

Two comic books and a cool prop badge are included as well. The Ninjak card comes with a code for a free download. I haven’t heard of the series but it looks interesting. Who doesn’t like futuristic ninjas? I haven’t heard of Orphan Black either. I think it’s a Canadian TV show and will have to do more research later. I hope the comic is a good read. The Agents of Shield badge is cool. I haven’t seen the show because of the bad initial reviews but I’ve heard it gets better during the mid season.

Final Thoughts

I’m satisfied with the March Loot Crate. I liked majority of the items and the others were not that bad. I’m not sure about the Orphan Black comic but I will give it a read. The shirt and watch are sweet and will probably wear them often. The theme for next month is “Fantasy” so be sure to check the site for another Loot Crate review.

February 2015 Loot Crate Unboxing: Play!

Loot Crate is a monthly subscription box for geeks and nerds. It has a variety of items that follow a monthly theme. February’s theme was “Play!” which was very exciting since my gaming group started playing more board games.

What’s in the Box?

Book, Cards and Dice

After finishing my last book “Skin Game” from Jim Butcher I’ve been wanting a new book to read. Thankfully Loot Crate put in “Ready Player One”. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this book from friends and online reviews. I’m not a huge fan of the Dystopian future genre but I will give this book a read. I recently read an article about Steven Spielberg directing the movie adaptation, which makes me want to start reading as soon as possible.

A new card game called Super Fight was also included. My first impression of it was the nerdy version of Apples to Apples and Cards Against Humanity. A few of my friends have played it and said it was a lot of fun. Hopefully I will be able to break out these cards in our next gaming session. Also included is a pair of dice that is used to play a game. The Loot Crate box (not shown) can be turned into a game board. The dice come with rules and the monthly magazine has punch outs. I haven’t looked over the rules but will update if I get a chance to play.

Figures and Bugs

The Munny figure is what I’m most excited about this month. I remember seeing these a few years ago in an art store and have been wanting to paint one. I’ve been painting miniature pieces for wargaming for two years now but this would be a new experience. Thankfully I can use my acrylic paints since I’m not that proficient with markers.

Also included were a Hex Bug, a code for the online game Firefly and a poster from Manny Peters. The Hex Bug looks cool but I haven’t played with them. I’ve received a smaller one in a previous crate but it’s still in its packaging. I’ve heard its very popular with younger children so I may give it to a sibling. The firefly ship code may get me to play this game. I didn’t know they were making this game until a month ago but it’s not too late to start.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I think this crate was great. Usually I rate crates based on how many things I liked. I think “Ready Player One”, Munny Figure, and Super Fight were my favorite items in this box but the others are cool as well. I’m happy with this months box and hope the March crate is awesome.
