Destiny DLC: House of Wolves!

House of Wolves poster

Finally, after a long content lull the House of Wolves DLC has finally dropped and I wasn’t prepared. It was mostly due to no power. The typhoon that hit Guam over the weekend messed up my plans but thankfully everyone is safe and no real damage was done. My backyard mango tree was the only casualty. So far, I am happy with this new piece of content. The Prison of Elders and Trials of Osiris look fun and interesting. Even though a raid did not come with this DLC the new game types are welcomed. The reef looks great but it’s not as big as the tower. The reef and tower will both be important since none of the original faction vendors will be available in the reef.

I’m excited for the next few weeks as I progress through the content and hopefully it lasts until the Comet drops in a few months. I’m still waiting for a few games to be released but it might be a long wait. If you play on the PS4, add my PSN: H8terade_671.

March 2015 Loot Crate Unboxing: Covert

Loot Crate is a monthly subscription box for geeks and nerds. It has a variety of items that follow a monthly theme. The cost of the box is $13.95 plus $6.00 for shipping, bringing it to a total of $19.95. The value of the box is subjective so watch and read more reviews before you decide to subscribe. The March theme is Covert. I was expecting some cool spy themed stuff and I wasn’t disappointed.

What’s in the Crate?

Box Design: Spy Computer

Loot Crate has been doing box designs for a few months with some being more elaborate than others. Past boxes had cut outs and diorama like set pieces. Last Months box was a board game board while this month has a computer design. The box is actually a puzzle and the URL on the bottom left of the screen (http://bit.ly/19aqSpV) is a link that starts the puzzle. The puzzle has clues that requires you to look at all the things you got this month. At the end you submit your name to be a henchmen and maybe they give you something as well. This was fun and I hope they make more interactive boxes like this.

James Bond Shirt

This is one of my favorite shirts from Loot Crate. The whole “shaken not stirred” line from Bond is iconic. I will be wearing this as soon as possible.

Spy Gear

The spy gear is pretty cool. The watch has a blank face and doesn’t show the time unless a button is pressed. The Field Notes notebook is small and easy to carry. I will probably use this more since I prefer writing to using my cell phone. Also included is a paracord survival bracelet with  the Loot Crate colors of orange and black. It’s a very useful item and hopefully I will not have to use it. I remember the Mad Libs games from when I was younger but I haven’t played a game in a while. I will probably play it with my younger siblings, it seems like a fun way to kill some time.

Agents, Clones and Ninjas

Two comic books and a cool prop badge are included as well. The Ninjak card comes with a code for a free download. I haven’t heard of the series but it looks interesting. Who doesn’t like futuristic ninjas? I haven’t heard of Orphan Black either. I think it’s a Canadian TV show and will have to do more research later. I hope the comic is a good read. The Agents of Shield badge is cool. I haven’t seen the show because of the bad initial reviews but I’ve heard it gets better during the mid season.

Final Thoughts

I’m satisfied with the March Loot Crate. I liked majority of the items and the others were not that bad. I’m not sure about the Orphan Black comic but I will give it a read. The shirt and watch are sweet and will probably wear them often. The theme for next month is “Fantasy” so be sure to check the site for another Loot Crate review.

Lift Heavy and Level Up!

February 2015 Loot Crate Unboxing: Play!

Loot Crate is a monthly subscription box for geeks and nerds. It has a variety of items that follow a monthly theme. February’s theme was “Play!” which was very exciting since my gaming group started playing more board games.

What’s in the Box?

Book, Cards and Dice

After finishing my last book “Skin Game” from Jim Butcher I’ve been wanting a new book to read. Thankfully Loot Crate put in “Ready Player One”. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this book from friends and online reviews. I’m not a huge fan of the Dystopian future genre but I will give this book a read. I recently read an article about Steven Spielberg directing the movie adaptation, which makes me want to start reading as soon as possible.

A new card game called Super Fight was also included. My first impression of it was the nerdy version of Apples to Apples and Cards Against Humanity. A few of my friends have played it and said it was a lot of fun. Hopefully I will be able to break out these cards in our next gaming session. Also included is a pair of dice that is used to play a game. The Loot Crate box (not shown) can be turned into a game board. The dice come with rules and the monthly magazine has punch outs. I haven’t looked over the rules but will update if I get a chance to play.

Figures and Bugs

The Munny figure is what I’m most excited about this month. I remember seeing these a few years ago in an art store and have been wanting to paint one. I’ve been painting miniature pieces for wargaming for two years now but this would be a new experience. Thankfully I can use my acrylic paints since I’m not that proficient with markers.

Also included were a Hex Bug, a code for the online game Firefly and a poster from Manny Peters. The Hex Bug looks cool but I haven’t played with them. I’ve received a smaller one in a previous crate but it’s still in its packaging. I’ve heard its very popular with younger children so I may give it to a sibling. The firefly ship code may get me to play this game. I didn’t know they were making this game until a month ago but it’s not too late to start.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I think this crate was great. Usually I rate crates based on how many things I liked. I think “Ready Player One”, Munny Figure, and Super Fight were my favorite items in this box but the others are cool as well. I’m happy with this months box and hope the March crate is awesome.

Dragon: The April Loot Crate

The twentieth of each month brings childlike excitement. My subscription box called Loot Crate is in the mail and on its way to my mail box. What is Loot Crate you ask? “Loot Crate is the monthly gear and swag club for those that live and embrace the geek and gaming lifestyle”. I love this concept since it makes every month feel like Christmas. The only thing known about the box before it ships is the theme. If you would like to know more about Loot Crate is you can check out the Loot Crate website. On to the LOOT!

I really like this months theme and the contents of this box. The dragon shield screen wiper is something I really need. The “dragon jerky” and dog tags are cool as well. I haven’t tried the jerky yet but I’m sure its going to be good. The D20 foam die is very cool. I may have to use it in a future DnD game. The random item was the Game of Thrones vinyl figure blind box. I pulled Rob Stark. He wasn’t the character I wanted but it’s cool. I also picked up “The Nord” from the elder scrolls series. I think it’s a promo for the upcoming MMORPG set in the Elder Scrolls universe. I can’t wait for next months crate!
